SK Pharmatech has finally completed its new Sejong plant, which invested $260 million (approximately 376 billion won) to strengthen peptide production capabilities, a key raw material in the rapidly growing obesity and diabetes treatment market.
The Sejong new plant is expected to become a key base for SK Pharmatech to respond to the rapidly expanding peptide pharmaceutical market and strengthen its global contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) capabilities. The plant, to be operated by its subsidiary SK Biotech, is the fifth production facility SK Pharmatech has established in Korea.
In 2024, SK Pharmatech announced it would invest a total of $260 million (approximately 376 billion won) in the construction of this plant with the goal of securing a leading position in the peptide pharmaceutical CDMO market. The completion of the Sejong new plant as of August 2, 2026 holds strategic importance as it will significantly contribute to expanding domestic peptide production capacity and stabilizing the global supply chain.
The Sejong new plant completed this time boasts an area of approximately 12,600 square meters (approximately 3,800 pyeong). In particular, through 8 production trains, it has secured the capacity to produce dozens of tons of high-quality peptides annually, and is equipped with state-of-the-art peptide research and development (R&D) facilities to pursue both production efficiency and technological innovation.
