Global AI leader Nvidia and South Korea's leading research institution Seoul National University are joining forces in the field of "Physical AI" to open a new chapter in strengthening South Korea's AI competitiveness.

Seoul National University officially announced on July 24, 2026, that it is pursuing a joint research partnership with Nvidia in cutting-edge technology fields including Physical AI and robotics. The two parties are in discussions to establish the "Seoul National University-Nvidia Physical AI Joint Lab." This is a comprehensive partnership concept focused on mutual exchange and collaborative research rather than a physical research facility. The cooperation covers four key areas: ▲discovering and supporting joint projects in Physical AI, robotics, accelerated computing, and semiconductor fields ▲mutual exchange of personnel ▲providing internship and mentoring opportunities for Seoul National University students ▲establishing a sovereign AI testbed at the national level through utilization of Siheung Campus AI infrastructure and technology exchange.

This discussion began when Madison Huang, senior director of Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and head of robotics marketing, visited Seoul National University in April 2026. Subsequently, on June 8, 2026, CEO Jensen Huang visited Seoul National University in person, accelerating the cooperation discussions. At the time, CEO Jensen Huang received a jumper as a gift from the university and responded with enthusiasm, creating a unique scene. The consecutive visits from both parties are evaluated as demonstrating Nvidia's deep interest in South Korea's AI ecosystem and its commitment to collaborating with the nation's top research institutions.

This partnership goes beyond simple industry-academia collaboration to paint a larger picture of establishing a national-level "sovereign AI testbed" that strengthens the nation's AI competitiveness and leads cutting-edge technology development. There are high expectations that synergies will be created by combining Seoul National University's Siheung Campus AI infrastructure with Nvidia's AI technological capabilities.

Seoul National University President Yoo Hong-lim announced this agreement and expressed great expectations, stating that "it will serve as an opportunity to have substantial ripple effects across the domestic AI industry." The partnership between Seoul National University and Nvidia is expected to have a positive impact on South Korea's AI industry ecosystem and serve as an important stepping stone for leaping forward as a global AI powerhouse. Attention is being focused on whether the cooperation between the two parties will be a key player in leading future cutting-edge technologies and opening a new era of AI.
