Today, Jeju is trapped in a 'steaming hot pot,' with heat index temperatures in the western part of Jeju City soaring above 35 degrees Celsius, as the Korea Meteorological Administration warned of the possibility of strengthening extreme heat warnings.

Across the entire Jeju region, extreme heat and tropical nights are intensifying despite occasional cloudy skies. Morning low temperatures have remained at 26-27 degrees Celsius, higher than the average (24-25 degrees), while daytime high temperatures have reached 31-33 degrees Celsius, exceeding the average (29-31 degrees), continuing the oppressive heat.

Extreme heat warnings are currently in effect across a wide area of Jeju. An extreme heat alert has been issued for the western part of Jeju City, while extreme heat advisories have been issued for the northern, eastern, and mountainous areas of Jeju City and Seogwipo City. Additionally, tropical night advisories are in effect, mainly in the coastal areas of Jeju City and Seogwipo City, causing day and night heat to torment residents.

In particular, the highest heat index temperature in the western part of Jeju City is forecast to exceed 35 degrees Celsius, directly demonstrating the intensity of the extreme heat. Heat index temperatures in most areas of Jeju, except for mountainous regions and Chuza Island, are also observed to rise above 33 degrees Celsius.

The Korea Meteorological Administration stated that as warm and humid southerly winds continue to flow in, extreme heat warnings may be further strengthened or expanded from their current scope. Such meteorological conditions are expected to further increase the risk of heat-related illnesses.

An official from the Korea Meteorological Administration urged, "Since the possibility of heat-related illnesses is high, it is important to drink sufficient water and refrain from vigorous outdoor activities as much as possible." Special attention is required from both tourists visiting Jeju and residents. As extreme heat and tropical nights are expected to continue in the near future, continuous attention to changes in weather conditions is necessary.
