Israel launched a new wave of large-scale strikes targeting Beirut suburbs and Tehran, signaling a significant acceleration of conflict across the Middle East. These assaults threaten an already shaky ceasefire in Lebanon, prompting widespread panic, displacement, and warnings of expanded military activity.

Israel's military conducted extensive airstrikes on southern Beirut, including its suburbs, and also targeted Tehran. These operations mark a substantial expansion of hostilities, with reports indicating attacks also forced the closure of a Syria border crossing. The New York Times reported Israel's attacks on Beirut and Tehran as fighting in the Middle East accelerates, while France 24 highlighted a "large-scale" wave of strikes on south Beirut.

The strikes immediately threatened an already precarious ceasefire. Reuters reported Israel destroyed a bridge in Lebanon and explicitly warned of "Gaza-scale destruction" if the conflict intensified further. ABC News indicated Israel's preparation to expand its activity in Lebanon as the conflict with Hezbollah escalates. Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich also reportedly threatened Beirut suburbs amid ongoing evacuation orders. The Guardian noted that bombs pounded both Tehran and Beirut, underscoring the broad geographical scope of the current hostilities.

The intensified military actions have triggered a severe humanitarian crisis. Al Jazeera reported Israeli attacks killed 10 people in Lebanon, while Lebanon appealed to Israel's allies for intervention, stating hundreds were killed. The New York Times documented how Israeli evacuation orders sparked panic among Beirut residents. Furthermore, Israeli attacks and threats fuel a mass displacement crisis in southern Lebanon, according to Al Jazeera.

Internationally, the escalating conflict has drawn significant attention and statements. Former U.S. President Donald Trump claimed Iran wanted to "make a deal" while also demanding Iran's "unconditional surrender" as bombs fell on its capital. The Pentagon reported the initial six days of the "Iran War" cost the U.S. an estimated $11.3 billion, highlighting the significant financial burden of the widening conflict.
