LG Display recorded an operating loss of 107.7 billion won in the second quarter of 2026, but achieved a first-half profit of 39 billion won for the first time in five years since 2021, sending a positive signal for a rebound in the display industry amid seasonal off-peak periods and one-time cost burdens.
LG Display announced on the 22nd that it recorded an operating loss of 107.7 billion won in the second quarter of 2026. This represents a narrower loss compared to 116 billion won in the same period last year. Revenue increased 0.4% year-over-year to 5.6121 trillion won, while net loss turned negative at 418.8 billion won.
However, despite the second-quarter loss, LG Display achieved a dramatic turnaround by recording first-half sales of 11.1461 trillion won and operating profit of 39 billion won, capturing market attention. This marks LG Display's first first-half profit in five years since 2021. In particular, compared to the same period last year (sales of 11.6523 trillion won, operating loss of 82.6 billion won), the company achieved a dramatic reversal with first-half earnings improving by as much as 121.6 billion won.
The company attributed the second-quarter loss primarily to seasonal off-peak effects in the display industry and one-time costs from workforce efficiency optimization. Nevertheless, the company emphasized that the first-half return to profitability is a result of the materialization of business structure advancement centered on OLED and technological leadership. Kim Sung-hyun, Chief Financial Officer (CFO), stated, "Excluding one-time factors in the second quarter, the core profitability of the business maintained a profitable trend," demonstrating solid growth.
