SK Hynix (000660) has declined over 4% during trading hours and is unable to escape weakness. As of today, the stock is trading at 1,502,000 won, down 65,000 won from the previous day. This is attributed to a combination of disappointment over recently announced preliminary earnings and valuation burden from short-term overheating.

SK Hynix (000660) is experiencing a sharp decline with the 1.5 million won level being threatened during mid-session trading on the 4th. As of 2:30 PM today, it is trading at 1,502,000 won, down 65,000 won (-4.15%) from the previous day. This sharp decline is primarily attributed to market disappointment over the recently announced consolidated financial statements preliminary operating results. The market had anticipated improved performance for SK Hynix based on strong demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM), but the disclosed preliminary results are widely considered to have failed to meet market expectations. Some analysts suggest the possibility that the recovery in legacy memory markets outside of HBM has been slower, or that increased new investment costs have limited profitability improvements below expectations.

From a supply and demand perspective, aggressive selling by foreign investors and institutions is pulling down stock prices. In particular, some analysts note that recently disclosed reports on specific securities ownership by executives and major shareholders, as well as filings on changes in shareholdings by largest shareholders from the past week, may have served as justification for profit-taking among some investors. Changes in insider shareholdings occasionally exert subtle psychological effects on markets, sometimes encouraging investor caution or triggering short-term selling pressures. This assessment suggests such developments acted as a brake on the stock's steady upward trend supported by strong earnings expectations.

SK Hynix has been recognized as the leading player in the high-bandwidth memory (HBM) market and the biggest beneficiary of increased artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor demand. However, despite solid business prospects, perceptions that stock prices have risen excessively in the short term are spreading, intensifying adjustment pressures. Some analysts point out that valuation burdens from the rapid stock price surge are taking effect. With the stock having surged sharply on expectations of a "semiconductor super cycle," concentrated profit-taking sales are emerging as short-term earnings disappointment appears. A securities industry official stated, "SK Hynix's long-term growth drivers remain valid, but we cannot rule out the possibility of further adjustments if there is a lack of additional momentum exceeding market expectations in the short term." The official added, "Amid persistent uncertainties in global economic conditions and semiconductor market conditions, investors are likely to strengthen their tendency to scrutinize corporate fundamentals more carefully."

Currently, SK Hynix's key support level of 1.5 million won is under threat, raising concerns that investment sentiment may further weaken. From a technical analysis perspective, the next support level is expected to be in the early 1.4 million won range, and a break below that could increase downward pressure further. For the semiconductor sector overall, while rosy prospects for AI demand remain intact, a conservative stance should be maintained that volatility could expand depending on individual company earnings announcements and macroeconomic indicators. This is a time when cautious approaches are required to prepare for increased short-term stock price volatility.
