Late at night, a vehicle fire suspected to be arson occurred in the downtown area of Okcheon-dong, Gangneung, resulting in one motorcycle being completely destroyed and one car being partially burned.

The fire started around 11:04 p.m. the previous day on a road near Okcheon Elementary School in Okcheon-dong, Gangneung, Gangwon Province. The flames quickly consumed a parked motorcycle, and then spread to a nearby parked car, burning part of it. Fortunately, there were no casualties.

The fire department that responded to the report completely extinguished the flames in approximately 20 minutes. As of July 18, 2026, police and fire authorities have jointly launched an investigation into the exact cause of the fire, and are particularly focusing their investigation on the suspicion that this fire was caused by arson.
